On August 14th at 11:25 am, just six months and five days after moving to New York City, I will be flying home to Chicago.
And on August 21st at 7:20 pm, I will be begin my 26 hour trek to southern China.
Over two years ago, while I was still living in Denver, a friend of mine told me about his plans to teach in Korea. I was entranced by the idea, but life kept getting in the way and the idea stayed on the back-burner until just a few months ago. Somehow, a friend-of-a-friend got me out the door. She called me out as I talked about wanting to find a way to see the world, and told me, in a semi gentle way, that I should stop talking about travelling and just go do it.
For whatever reason, that did it. So now I have a job, a visa, a plane ticket, and a month's worth of Chinese yuan ready to go.
I really don't know what I'm doing. Like, at all. But I'm pretty tired of dragging my feet around this idea. So, cheers to the unknown and to getting lost!
