To sum it up, I have had AMAZING food here. The best Chinese eggplant comes from the Guangdong province (where I live.) And I'll have you know that sweet and sour chicken actually is REAL Chinese food. Not just the take-out Chinese food that you grab on your way home in New York. Believe it or not, sweet and sour style food (oh my god, the tofu) is traditional Cantonese food. And it is glorious.
My favorite meals so far have been meals at Sichuan style restaurants at 3 and 4 o'clock in the morning with the people I've gone out to the bars with. Eating sweet and sour chicken, flat bread, tofu and eggplant to stave off a hangover is a great way to end a night. It's communal, it's lively and it's great entertainment for locals who enjoy laughing at drunk foreigners.
