The way work goes here is that you get paid once per month. So when I moved here with juuuuuuust enough money to get by, I had to be pretty careful. But this past Monday I got paid for the first time. A month's worth of salary all at once? The day before a 7 day holiday vacation? That is terrible and awesome. Mostly awesome. And so I don't want it to end!!
With that said, this break has made me downright spoiled. Days and days of just playing? No work hard, just play hard? Oh dear. But I will say that I did some really great touristy stuff and didn't just act like a college kid.
Foshan, like many cities in southern China, is a port city. It is known for ceramic arts and furniture specifically. There's an amazing old part of Foshan, a "city" turned tourist spot that used to be where all of the ceramics were made. And it has been preserved to look rather...rustic. The ceramics shops all still stand and operate today, however local artists have developed this traditional art form with an incredibly modern perspective. It is a beautiful blend of old and new China. It was also an opportunity to take a ridiculous number of pictures. And I truly mean ridiculous. The friends that I went with had to stop for pictures EVERYWHERE (good lord, it was exhausting.) Here are just a few examples:
