So, the last two weeks have been occupied by general madness. There was a short holiday that was extended due to a typhoon, followed by five days of work and then a seven day holiday which is currently in progress.
Last weekend, a DJ at a club got a-hold of my friend and told her that he needed a westerner to get on stage for a Monday night performance in honor of the holiday. It would involve lip syncing to a Chinese song. Of course, I told her that she HAD to do it. So Monday rolls around and just as I had finished getting ready to go out and laugh at my friend, she came to my apartment, took one look at me and told me to change. It was not because of poor fashion choices, thank you; apparently I was going to be on stage and I needed to wear white. There was no time for questions since I was already late.
A hurried change of clothes, a rushed dinner, an even more rushed drink at my favorite bar, and we were at the club. By the time we got there, it was packed and everyone had already had one too many. As promised, my friend and I were immediately handed drinks and as we accepted those we also embraced the fact that we were going to make complete fools of ourselves. Which was true, because we would be lip syncing to, not just a Chinese song, but a Chinese opera set to a beat. Naturally.
It was actually a blast and a hilarious experience. The next day, the same DJ got ahold of us and told us that the whole performance (there were acts before and after us) would be happening that night as well. Could we please, please make it?
What do you think we did?
